Normally I don't read self-published literature, but I've realized recently that was pretty stupid and gave this series a chance.
And I'm definitely glad I did.
While this book was not perfect, I found it included a lot of the elements that tend to be my guilty pleasures in urban fantasy - except better, in that it wasn't just a guilty pleasure. This was genuinely pretty well-written, and I'm really excited to read the sequels. I just wish there had been more development with Old Roddy's character, as once we completed the climax, I kept expecting him to come back, and I'm a bit disappointed that he hasn't. He would have been a really fascinating character if we'd learned more about him. I also loved the suspenseful, paranormal scenes Halle had; though I had no idea what the hell was going on at first in most of them, it definitely gave the book the right atmosphere, and I really did enjoy them.
I'll be reading the next books for sure.
